Words on paper or brush on canvas – the only two medium I know to express myself.

Though my love for colors existed since childhood but the generation in which I grew up, there was hardly any scope to learn painting or drawing professionally. Practicing art as a full-time career was of course out of question :-). As I grew up, I realized my love for colors is deeper than I envisaged and hence even amidst a very hectic schedule, I am somehow trying to keep this love of my life alive, in a hope that maybe someday I will fulfill my dream of learning & practicing painting professionally :-). Until then let me believe in the words of Henry David Thoreu – “The world is but a canvas to our imagination“.

No pencil, no eraser, just a wooden nib dipped in natural Colors made from flowers and charcoal – throwback to my first ever authentic #madhubani done on cowdung paper sourced from #bihar. Ever thankful to the very talented rural artist Mr #PawanJha who helped me with the nib and Colors. While I have been doing painting since childhood but never got the chance to learn it formally. Though in last few years, I have tried to meet many folk artists and understand the authentic nitty gritty of different forms of art. Be it #madhubani or #warli or #kalamkari, there is a lot of things that you don’t get to know through casual hobby classes or quick online tutorials. I have also been reading a lot of books on #IndianFolkArt these days. Trust me, when it comes to art & India, there is an ocean of knowledge that needs to be explored before we understand any one form in detail. My kind of #GaneshChaturthi celebration 😊. My love for #Madhubani is getting serious by the day and the detailing required in this form of #art is meditative in true sense. Btw, I hate watermarking the image that spoils the aesthetics of the pictures but realised two of my earlier photos have been flipped from here and posted somewhere else as their own work after cropping my name 😔😔. Folks, internet is a boon when it comes to ideas and inspirations, I myself learn so many things online but not giving credit to the original source or posting someone else's image as your own is stealing. Do give credit where it's due please, it helps and motivates the creative folks a lot when they get their due recognition. Finally it's done. My #Madhubani trial number 3. And after experimenting with 2 very small designs, this time I did a bit bigger one with more detailing on an A4 size paper. Man, this form of art definitely requires some concentration for sure and from drawing to painting, it took me 4-5 sittings at least. But because I have lots of time these days, I am loving this form of engagement to keep me occupied 😀. The amateur me needs to practice lot more to get better at it. I found this #Ardhnarishwar design at many places though I am not sure who is the original creator of this design. When you plug your old hard drive to search something and end up spotting some of your old artwork 😊. These are from post-mobile era, I have no idea where and what happened to all the paintings that I did before mobile cameras invaded our lives 😀😜. An #oilpainting after more than 10 years 😊 for someone very very close to me.
